Grades and scores open the door.
The best film in the world doesn’t help if you’re not eligible to enroll. Here’s the honest plan for the SAT/ACT and English tests U.S. colleges ask for — what to take, when, and how to prepare. Guidance, not a guarantee: always confirm requirements with each school.

SAT / ACT
- Check each target school's policy — many are test-optional, some still require scores.
- Plan a first attempt ~12–18 months before enrollment, leaving room to retake.
- Free prep exists (Khan Academy for SAT). Budget 6–8 focused weeks.
English proficiency
- International students usually need TOEFL, IELTS, or the Duolingo English Test.
- Duolingo is cheaper, online, and fast — widely accepted; confirm with each school.
- Minimum scores vary by program; aim a few points above the stated minimum.
Build the timeline
- Map test dates to application deadlines — register early, seats fill up.
- Keep transcripts and certified translations ready alongside scores.
- Re-test once if you're close; small gains can open more programs.
